Literature
Don Peebles (1922–2010) is recognised for his significant contribution to the development of abstraction in twentieth-century New Zealand art.
After initially studying at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney, Peebles spent a formative period in England in the early 60s where his was exposed to contemporary influences of British constructivism. On returning home, and while lecturing at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts for over three decades, Peebles maintained a very active painting career. Join former student Grant Banbury as he traces the artist’s developments, highlighting Peebles’s innovations and shifts in approach.
