The magnificent catalogue includes a masterpiece by Don Binney, one of his most iconic images, never before seen for sale by auction. Other significant, recently consigned works include a large scale Hemisphere by Gretchen Albrecht once owned by the late Ron Sang. A previously believed 'lost' McCahon stained glass window and a rare work by Singaporean artist Cheong Soo Pieng purchased by its New Zealand owners in 1977 also feature. Four works by Charles Frederick Goldie feature, including Sophia and the work pictured below, along with two paintings completed whilst the artist was in Paris attending the prestigious Académie Julian.
Exceptional works by Rita Angus, Ray Ching, Shane Cotton, Tony Fomison, Marti Friedlander, Fred Graham, Max Gimblett, Louise Henderson, Frances Hodgkins, Ralph Hotere, Robyn Kahukiwa, Karl Maughan, Peter McIntyre, Trevor Moffitt, Michael Parekōwhai, Ann Robinson, Michael Smither, Sir Grahame Sydney and others are also included in this extraordinary Winter catalogue.
